So how does this work?
First you put an empty (no lines) piece of  paper in front of you  in landscape. Second you think  about the subject,  its audience and perhaps a result you are after. Than you write down a  word that best describes your  subject or even better  make a little  drawing in the center of the page. Than draw a branch at 'one o'clock'  thick near the center and thinner where it radiates out and  write the first main topic  alongside the branch at exactly the length of the branch  using capitals (or a little  drawing). Don't use sentences use only  keywords as much as possible. Than connect to the main branch every  subtopic that has a link like paragraphs to a chapter in a book. Than  write the next main topic under the first mainbrach drawing again a  branch and repeat this clockwise until you are out of main topics. E.g. if  we would be  writing a book by first setting up a mind map we would  start to note down the title of  the book in the middle of  the mindmap and  our first main branch would be 'chapter  one' and the first subtopic after  this main topic would be  paragraph one (1.1). If you  want to stimulate  the cooperation of both halfs of your brain i.e. whole brain thinking  than  use as much preferences of your left half and your right half (see above)  so use  color, pictures, tables, connecting lines,  codes, associations  and so on.
