Now compare your checklist of the last step to this one below:
Phase 1: paper
Step 1 Landscape
place your paper in landscape orientation
start in the middle
Step 2 Title
Put the title of your mind map in the middle of your paper (with no lines) after you have thought about the target audience (yourself or others) and the objective
define subject/audience !!
what is the essence of your objective?
or think in terms of the result you are after
e.g.:
structuring your own thoughts --> overview, inview, priorities, what to do
brainstorm ---> new idea's,
project start up ---> get everyone on the same page for goal and milestones, who will do what,
conversation --> use 5WplusH to structure, define actions
meeting --> and so on
Phase 2: writing
Step 3
One o'clock
First branch at one o'clock
Thick near centre, thinner where it radiates out
 Step 4
1st main topic
Write your first main topic along your the branch just drawn at exactly the length of the branch
Or
make a little drawing of your first main topic!
Step 5
Subtopics behind main
Connect subtopics to main branch
Don't use sentences! Use keywords as much as possible
Preferably one or two!
Step 6
Next at 2 o'clock
Write next main topic under first main branch at two o'clock and continue clockwise, add sub topics after 2nd main topic, radiate out
Again draw a main branch (at 3 o'clock) and continue until you are out of main topics
Note:
If you have too many main topics either make a second mind map or use a pencil with eraser from the beginning so you can make some more room
Phase 3: associations
Step 7
Add colours
add  a minimum of three colours so you will remember your mind map better
when using colours you can emphasize a branch with all its sub branches or highlight important parts of your mind map
if you make a drawing in stead of using key-words also make sure you use a minimum of 3 colours for your drawing
Step 8
Add relationships
looking for relationships will enhance your creative powers
you can emphasize relationships with using arrow, colours or icons
icons can also be used to filter out similarities

Phase 4: finishing
Step 9
Check objective
did I / we realize my / our objective(s)
structuring your own thoughts --> overview, inview, priorities, what to do
brainstorm ---> new idea's,
project start up ---> get everyone on the same page for goal and milestones, who will do what,
conversation --> use 5WplusH to structure, define actions
Step 10
Actions
what am I / we going to do
list actions, decision's, idea's
Example:

Assigment:
  • Learn from the differences and make a new checklist.
  • Make a mindmap of the checklist using the rules in the checklist.
